Jan Oystein Aksnes' parents May Britt Aksnes advised her to pursue music for personal growth, rather than to earn a living or an interest. She began writing her own songs. She credits Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen and Bjork for being among her inspirations. After her mother said that the songs she wrote were not meant to make her famous however, but to encourage people to see the importance of their work and influence to our world at large, she began performing them publicly. Her mother suggested that she sing her songs in public in order to make people aware of their importance and the ways they could impact the world. It wasn't until her 14th birthday that she told her parents. There was no way she could have imagined to turn into Aurora. Aurora says she loves creating songs. For her, music is the best method to experience anything.
